What is Biodynamic Farming?

Biodynamic farming was first developed by Rudolf Steiner in the late 1800s. Steiner was a highly trained scientist and respected philosopher, most famous for founding the school of anthroposophy. He advocated for the awareness that all of nature moves in rhythm with the stars, the seasons, and the ebb and flow of the elemental energies. By creating a system of farming that worked in sync with these natural forces, he was able to miraculously grow gorgeous and healthy plants with very few fertilizers.

Now, almost one hundred years later, Biodynamics is becoming known as the “next level organic standard”. Not only is biodynamic farming cleaner and beneficial to the environment, but it provides a source of food that is ultimately healthier and more in sync with nature. Biodynamic farms tend to be more vibrant with wildlife.

We are currently working with a few certified biodynamic farmers and are certified organic with Oregon Tilth Certified Organic, or OTCO. OTCO has been working for forty years to to make food and agriculture biologically sound and socially equitable. Their goal is to show the benefits — economic, environmental, and social — of sustainable food production.
