How Ceremony and Ritual Can Save Your Soul Like a Puffed-Down Buddha

“Celebrate life through ritual.”

What the hell?

It’s all over our products and our website. You’d think we’d be smoking some serious spliff, which we are, not gonna lie. But ever give much thought to what that shit means? What do we mean when we say “ritual, ceremony?”

Or to quote Pulp Fiction’s Jules Winfield: “I just thought it was some coldblooded shit to say to a motherfucker before I popped a cap in his ass.”
Well, allow us to oblige.

Ritual, ceremony, blowing that old didgeridoo, just might save your goddamned soul, praise Jesus, Allah, J.R. Bob Dobbs and the entire Book of the SubGenius manifesto
It’s those moments we pause, breathe, look around, appreciate – give thanks – that make life worth living and sweating through all the tough bullshit.

Ritual and ceremony aren’t just fancy words; they’re a whole philosophy. And they don’t have to be decked out in gold robes with stone tablets and Monty Python cartoon imagery. The best rituals involve a strong cup of cold brew, a rolled-up spliff of smokable herbs, and some downtime. Let’s dive in and explore.

A Ritual’s Like One Hell of a Bloody Mary

The most common types of ceremony are weddings, funerals, baptisms, birthday parties, graduations – really any culturally significant event where people come together to celebrate.  Ceremony, any meaningful ritual, is a time to come together to recognize or commemorate something significant, special, a moment to share with the people you love.

It’s a time to reset priorities, remember what really matters: friendship, love, community. It’s an opportunity to bust out the grill, show off and share what you’ve just picked from the garden, spin a few records and puff-the-fuck-down.

Think about that feeling you had last New Year’s Day when everything’s reset and there’s this exciting opportunity to do it all over again, brand new, with a fresh rebirth and the inspiration of creation. It’s not just any other day. You go for a hike, shake yourself up one hell of a bloody Mary, eat some good food and reconnect with friends and family.

There’s something special in the reset. That’s why it’s so important to do. That’s why we’re not kidding when we say ceremony and ritual can save your goddamned soul.

Notice the Forest That Surrounds You

It’s the little rituals, things we do every day, that are truly special. Think dinner with family and friends, coffee in the morning, or really anything you do throughout the day that you kinda set up, relax, and kick back.

It’s kinda like when you take a long hike. Sure, the miles, the hills, the valleys all count, but it’s those moments you pause and take a breather, sit under a tree to drink some cold water and roll up a smoke, that are truly special, when it all comes together and you actually notice the forest that surrounds you.

You’re not just rushing from Point A to Point B: You’re in the moment, truly living, being, thriving – recognizing everything that brought you to this point in a moment of crystallized Time like a raindrop on the Third Eye of your forehead, smiling at the wonders of the sky.

Open up and say “Ahh.” That’s wonder. That’s enlightenment. It’s these special moments that get us through the sweat and crap of the workday, when we truly feel alive and at one with the Universe.

Church is Where You Make It

Like we said, ritual and ceremony don’t have to be a big deal. Church is where you make it, under a tree, your living room, sitting on the porch stoop and kicking the hell back.

You be you. That’s what matters.

Herbs are virtual keys to the doorway. Open your mind and step on in.

There’s something special, something meditative, in the process of rolling a spliff of smokable herbs.

The tin, brimming with fluffy organic goodness. The rolling papers, each a crisp sleeve like a blank Bob Ross canvas as the Afro sets the tone for what’s about to come. You layer in the herbs, add your filter to the end, roll into a funnel, lick the glue and seal: a moment of pure perfection.

Your brain’s in perfect ease and contentment. This is your time to smoke, drop everything, take a moment to breathe.

While a way a while: The hustle can wait.

An herbal smoke is different than a cigarette fiend getting their fix. You’re not in it for the addiction, the nic-fit. You’re communing with the herbs, becoming one with the garden and the blooming gifts of the Earth.

Find a some place beautiful, a tree, a point in nature, a spot you can relax, even if it’s just your living room couch. Commune, be one and behold.

That’s where the ceremony, the ritual of smoking herbs comes into play. You’re taking time to remember, to breathe, to step out of the worries and responsibilities of the day and reconnect. It’s significant.

You can do it with friends in a communal experience, or perhaps by yourself in mellow meditation. A good smoke is great to share, but it can also be a solitary communion.

Light up and inhale. Sip – don’t chug. Smoking herbs is like drinking tea, not pounding a 40.

Puff puff give. Moments like these are where it’s at. Ceremony and ritual might just save your goddamned soul if you let them.

Stop, drop, and roll. Get lit. This is your moment. It’s your soul.  Enjoy every crevice.
