Let Go, Be and Breathe: Smoking Herbs and the Fulfillment of Mystery

Life’s a blur – a rocket ship soaring through space-time. All you can do is hold on to your ass, feel the centrifugal force curl your nose hair and wonder what it all means.

And if you think too hard, all the meaning slips through your fingers like grains of sand in the one-minute hourglass of a Taboo board game on a rainy Tuesday night with the mom and pops.

We think we want meaning – but thinking’s where we screw it all up in a dime bag back alley drug deal.

Our brains want to understand, but how do you understand Time? We’re trying to hold onto something that can’t be known by the 60/40 fat/water cerebral Jello ratio we call our noggins. Sure, maybe we knew when we were babies, but the older we get the less we know but the more we think we know and still don’t have any clue we don’t really know. (Yep, we’re as fucked up as drums and space orbiting out at the 24:31 minute mark and still spiraling.)

Original Smoke Blend
It’s a Confuscious conundrum of overwhelming confusion. That’s why so many religions are bad for our health and leave such a high body count in their wake.

But I talked to my cat – and believe it or not, she knows, and I know she knows, purring away like a fur baby of Catfuscious wisdom.

And yet somewhere deep within life’s mystery, there lies a path to serenity – a direction that encourages us to let go of our worries and anxieties, and instead, embrace the present moment with mindfulness and grace.

Just smile, relax, intuit – the Spirit moves through it. Meaning runs through you, soaking up the very moment, if you just relax, open up, and say “AHHHHHHH….

Enlightenment is everywhere when we open up our minds and simply let the electrons spin around the positivity of the axis.

That’s the practice of mindfulness, simply being and living part of the moment. It’s the feeling you get when you smoke herbs and pause in between puffs of breaths to let existence become its own simplicity.

If you ever wanted to stop and find the meaning in between the moments, it’s this simple. Let go, be, and breathe. Like a Chris Tucker Smokey Mantra: “Puff puff give.” Here is why smoking herbs can help you discover the fulfillment of mystery.

“Puff Puff Give”: Mindfulness in All Its Surreal Simplicity

Mindfulness is within us – it’s a natural quality we all have. It’s the art of creating space for ourselves and just existing within the presence of each moment. It’s being aware of where you are in this exact moment in time, acknowledging its simple potential – without becoming overly reactive or overwhelmed with expectations.

“Puff puff give.”

At its core, mindfulness is the act of deliberately bringing our awareness to the here and now, without judgment or attachment to the past or worries about the future. It is the art of awakening to the Radiohead epiphany symphony of sensations, thoughts, and emotions dancing within and around us, like ripples on a tranquil pond in a Kermit the Frog daydream of stoned surreal reality.

Mindfulness is not about escaping reality; it is about embracing it in its entirety, embracing both the joys and the sorrows with an open heart and willful soul. It teaches us to lean into discomfort, to face our fears with courage, to cherish the precious moments of joy without clinging to the safety bar. It is a practice of acceptance and surrender, acknowledging that life unfolds in its own unpredictable ways, and our power lies in how we respond to it.

We keep looking for the door, but we’re still looking for the key. By practicing mindfulness, the door is before you in the presence of each moment, the key firmly in your hand ready to open it at will. The moon’s a doorway. Step on up and walk inside.

Smoking Herbs to Open Up an Appreciation of the Mindfulness of the Moment

When practicing mindfulness, the goal isn’t to quiet your mind. That’s impossible and pointless. This isn’t church. You’re totally free to squirm and imbibe your inner tickle. All you need to do is pay attention to the present moment without judgment. Just be and breathe. It’s just that simple.

Roll an herbal spliff. Mix in a little Cannabis if that’s your thing. Turn the rolling process into its own sense of ceremony. Tune into the fluffiness of the herbs, the green of the chlorophyll, the living breathing plant essence. As you lick the paper, open up your sensations. There is sense in the subtle detail. Pay attention.

If you can, set yourself up somewhere as beautiful as possible, against a tree, embracing the blue of the sky or the starlit halo of the night – though really any setting will do. The key is to pay attention to your surroundings.

Spark up the herbs. Gently light the end of the smoke without putting it in your mouth first. Grow a nice ember on the end of the spliff, then gently puff as the smoke hits your essence with all its grounded Earth. Sip the smoke – don’t chug it. A good herbal smoke is like sipping tea, not pounding a cold one. Take your time and appreciate the oneness of the moment.

Inhale and exhale. Notice the breath of the smoke. Offer the smoke as a gift to the sky. Give generously to the Spirit and settle into the sanctity of solemnity. Open your Chakras to everything the herbs have to teach you.

Let your mind wander and notice when it does. Then gently call it back to the present. Your flexing your imagination, and that’s great. Allow your focus to strengthen your appreciation of the mindfulness of the moment.

Be kind to your imagination. Don’t judge yourself on where your mind wanders. That’s what minds are built to do. It’s how the human race has survived. Just bring it back. It’s an exercise in returning back to the center of the circle.

That’s all there is to it. “Puff puff give.” If done right with attention to the mindfulness of the present moment, smoking herbs can open a door within. Let go, be and breathe. It’s the path to enlightenment and the sky’s the limit.
