People Have Forgotten About Herbs! 5 Smokable Herbs to Remember Your Planetary Roots

by Dec 6, 2023Smoke Signals1 comment

When we say “People have forgotten about herbs,” we mean it with the same passion, the same shocked awe, as one might muse, for instance: “People have forgotten about JNCOs.”

Remember JNCOs – those huge raver pants in the 90s that made your legs look like denim circus tents? In the mid-to-late-90s, JNCOs were everywhere hip people pitched their legs. They were a Raver’s dream soaked in ecstasy, pure MDMA meets denim in the middle of a fluorescent-paci Moby set spun off your gourd, tripping Lucky Charms in a purple feathered cowboy vest, Sly and the Family Stone space goggles set to stun.

Whatever happened to JNCOs? Short answer – they’ve been bred out of our lives. People (i.e. tripped-out 90s Ravers) used to wear JNCOs all the time.

Original Smoke Blend

That’s the same passion and enthusiasm we mean when we say, “People have forgotten about herbs. They’ve been bred out of our lives.”

And like JNCOs, we need to bring the herbs back.

At Bear Blend, we’re here to save the herbs. That’s our goal. We want to save the herbs and remind people that herbs can be used in so many different ways, especially smoking. Smokable herbs can chill you out, provide an alternative to addictive tobacco, and stretch your cannabis supply. Herbs can help you live happier.

So in a nutsack nutshell, here are 5 smokable herbs to bring back and remember your planetary roots.

Chill Out with Mugwort: A Smokable Herb with Mild Sedation

As a smokable herb, mugwort offers a unique and enjoyable smoking experience that’s a natural herbal alternative to Joe Camel’s cancer ward breathing machine. This herb is believed to have mild sedative properties, making it ideal for promoting relaxation and reducing stress and anxiety levels. When smoked, Mugwort’s soothing aroma can create a calming ambiance, perfect for unwinding after a long day. Dreamers unite! Mugwort has a reputation for enhancing dream activity and encouraging lucid dreaming. Many people have reported experiencing more vivid and meaningful dreams after smoking mugwort before snooze time.

In a variety of Indigenous cultures, Mugwort has traditionally been used for spiritual practices and medicinal intent, enhancing intuition, divination, and spiritual awareness. It’s a beautiful herb for awakening that third eye and heightening your Chi.

St. John’s Wort: A Smokable Herb to Put on that Happy Face

As a smokable herb, St. John’s Wort is known for its antidepressant effects. Studies have suggested that it may help alleviate mild to moderate depression by increasing serotonin levels in the brain, which contributes to improved mood and emotional well-being. In the world of herbs, St. John’s Wort is Saturday morning cartoons for your inner 7-year-old. This herb has anxiolytic properties that can help reduce anxiety and stress levels. It may promote a sense of calm and relaxation, making it beneficial for individuals dealing with anxiety disorders or general stress. Some women find relief from menopausal symptoms like hot flashes and mood swings with the use of St. John’s Wort.

Lobelia: A Smokable Herb AKA “Indian Tobacco”

Known as Indian tobacco or puke weed, Lobelia is an herb that has been historically used in traditional Native American and herbal medicine for its various therapeutic properties. A word of caution:  The herb can be toxic when smoked in high quantities, so it is best mixed in with other smokable herbs. Lobelia stimulates the effects of nicotine and can help ease nicotine withdrawal, making it perfect in an herbal concoction if you’re looking to quit smoking tobacco through smoking herbs. It’s a great way to quit smoking cigarettes without murdering your loved ones. Start by mixing herbs including Lobelia with your tobacco in a 50/50 mix, gradually increasing the amount of herbs each time you smoke until you are smoking pure herbs.

Yerba Mate: It’s Not Just for Drinking Anymore

Yerba mate is a traditional South American herbal beverage known for its numerous health benefits and cultural significance. It’s also a smokable herb that’s best mixed with other herbs because of its harsh effects on the lungs. Yerba Mate contains a variety of bioactive compounds, including caffeine, theobromine, and polyphenols, which contribute to its unique effects on the body. Yerba mate is known for its soothing properties, which can help reduce stress and anxiety levels.

Passion Flower: A Smokable Herb to Chill and Relax

Native to North America, Passion Flower is revered for its calming and relaxing properties. This smokable herb is often used as a natural remedy for insomnia, particularly in cases where anxiety or racing thoughts contribute to sleep difficulties. Smoking Passion Flower may help uplift the mood and improve overall emotional well-being, making it a valuable herbal ally for individuals experiencing mild mood imbalances. It is often used to promote relaxation and alleviate stress and anxiety.

Got to Get Back to the Garden

You’re not alone, but it’s easy to feel that way. We’re all faceplanted into Facebook, staring at screens, running out the clock, and wondering what it all means. We’ve gone digital, lost our planetary roots, forgotten the essential heritage of our ethos evolution. We need to get back to our roots, get back to the garden, go home to Gaia

JNCOs might help – hell they couldn’t hurt, but let’s be real: It’s time to bring back the herbs.

Herbs are the ticket – whether you’re putting them in a tea, soothing them on a wound, or lighting up an herbal spliff to toke a little stress away.

Herbs are a great way to reclaim our planetary roots and come back to Gaia. It’s our natural evolution, our calling to the days when we ate what we picked and walked what we lived, when the forest was our womb, and herbs were both our diet and medicine cabinet.

Celebrate herbs. Instead of pharmaceuticals, use herbs whenever possible. Herbs are the answer, the solution, to our natural disconnect. Come back to nature, back to the garden, celebrate herbs, and dance. In a world dominated by screens and deadlines, carving out time to connect with nature and harness the healing properties of herbs is an investment in our own health and happiness.
